The Missouri Society of Professional Surveyors will sponsor a webinar on February 3rd, 2026 with Gary R. Kent, PS title “2026 ALTA Standards”. The Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors and Professional Landscape Architects has reviewed and approved this course for 3.0 PDU’s. This program will outline the changes from the 2021 Standards and provide the reasoning for each. Emphasis will be given to the most significant changes including an improved definition of Relative Positional Precision, changes to the Section 4 Records Research requirements, new clarity on what processes and procedures may be employed in performing a Land Title Survey (including a change to Table A item 15), better clarity as related to the section 5 Easements and Servitudes section, and a new Table A item calling for a table identifying certain conditions that were observed in the process of conducting the survey. Guidance on certification to successors and assigns will be provided and throughout the program, the presenter will answer any and all questions relating to Land Title Surveys.

The ALTA/NSPS Land Title Survey standards are updated approximately every five years, with the last version effective in February 2021. The ALTA Standards are typically effective on February 23rd, which is symbolic because it is considered the “Terminus” (or boundary) date, honoring the Roman god of boundaries and landmarks, Terminus. Ancient celebrations included marking the boundary stone that marked the property lines, representing the land itself.
