Requirements & Information for becoming a Land Surveyor-in-Training – 2023

Requirement: Has graduated High School or holds a Missouri GED.

Option 1: Has received a bachelor’s degree in approved curriculum, which shall include 12 semester hours of surveying coursework defined by board regulation, of which 2 must be in legal aspects of boundary surveying. Option 2: Has passed 60 college credits, which shall include 20 semester hours of approved surveying course work, of which 2 must be in legal aspects of boundary surveying, and present satisfactory evidence to the board that this person has at least one year of combined professional office and field experience in land surveying projects under the immediate supervision of a Professional Land Surveyor. Option 3: Has passed 12 credit hours of approved surveying coursework, of which 2 must be in legal aspects of boundary surveying, and has at least two years of combined field and office experience in land surveying projects under the immediate supervision of a Professional Land Surveyor. Under this rule, not more than one year of postsecondary education work shall count as equivalent years of land surveying work. Certificate & Fundamentals of Surveying Examination: The Board will issue a certificate of completion to each applicant who satisfies the requirements of the aforementioned optional pathway, and has passed such required examinations.
